2019 BSS Upland National

2019 Boykin Spaniel Society Upland Nationals to be held in Ayden NC

The Upland National Championship is being held this winter at Shadow Creek Farm in Ayden NC.  Ayden is located about 15 minutes south of Greenville NC.  This event is the only one of its kind that allows Boykins to compete in an organized flushing field trial.  This year the Society is sponsoring three stakes for Novice, Intermediate and Open dogs.  The Novice stake will continue with its program of running all dogs over two days.  This allows all competitors to show their dogs over the longest period of time.

If you are not interested in competition, you are welcome to come out and see all the dogs and join in the side fun.   This year we will again be offering a side event called The Crazy Quail Shootout. It is a land version of our spring Duck Dog Shootout.  You and your dog will be challenged to bring down three quail and retrieve them with the fewest shells in as short a time as possible.  Sign up will be at the event, so bring your guns and shells. As usual there will be lunch catered every day and a banquet Saturday.   If you are interested in the banquet only just download the entry form, check banquet only, and mail it in.  You will be welcomed to a once a year sight of brown dogs, blaze orange and friendship.

Pre-Nationals Boykin Spaniel Tower Shoot

We will also be hosting a Pheasant Tower shoot this year. This will be hosted on Friday afternoon, the day prior to the Upland National Championship.  To say it will be fun would be to sell it short. The grounds at Shadow Creek contain many small ponds and canals.  The Shooting grounds will incorporate this water in the layout.  Expect water retrieves to be frequent! Not only is this event fun for the shooter but bringing your dog to make your retrieves doubles the fun.  No Dog, No Worries we will have stand in retrievers at each station.

But the whole story is about a field of brown dogs retrieving pheasants and having a huge time doing it.  It’s about the gathering of old friends and the meeting of new ones during an afternoons outing.  My favorite is the dinner afterwards and telling tales about great shots and long misses.  In short, we can’t wait to do it again.  So please make time to join us this year on FRIDAY January 18th, 2018 at 2 pm at Shadow Creek Farm’s main lodge.  In past years we have flown 300 pheasants.  The plantation has given us a great deal, so this year’s flight will be even grander.  Your participation will include 2 boxes of shells, transportation on grounds, and a group dinner after, while Plantation’s staff cleans and packages your birds.  The price this year will be $ 325.00 per gun, multiple people may share a gun. In past years we had husband / wife and father / son stands sharing.  It would make a great Christmas gift for the shooter in your house.

If you are interested in joining us, please send your check made out to the BSS to:
